Downloading and Viewing Your Website Archives
Website Archiving with XY Archive
We initially launched website archiving with warc files as the standard of archiving, which created a clickable archive of all website content. However, various issues with the warc format and process resulted in a small subset websites that couldn't be correctly archived.
We re-approached this through working with regulators to define what is truly needed in an audit while building a feature that is easy to use for you! What our website archiving does now is:
1. Capture a screenshot of each webpage (blogs and podcast outlines included), which can be viewed on your computer.
2. Capture the HTML of each webpage associated with your website.
Downloading your Website Archive
- Navigate to your Websites tab.
- Click on the "Downloads" tab.
Find/select the archive(s) you want to download, and click "Prepare Download".
* Note: this does not create a new archive of your website at that moment in time — it just prepares the existing archive(s) for download!
- Once your download is ready, click Download.
- Your website archive will be a zip file. Click to open it.
- After unzipping, you'll see a folder called "website." Click to open it for a directory tree of each page's screenshot and HTML source file.
